Bucks County Playhouse announces education programs

Sign up to learn about the voiceover world, acting, tap and improv

Bucks County Playhouse announced a lineup of in-person education programs for the new year. The theater’s education programming is designed to offer a wide range of classes, workshops and performance opportunities for the community regardless of skill level or professional aspiration. The teaching artists are all professional artists, educators and theater-makers with years of experience.

The winter session begins Jan. 9 and all classes will be held in Lambertville Hall, 57 Bridge St. in Lambertville, New Jersey. The schedule is as follows:

Breaking into the Voiceover World, taught by Pete DeMeo, runs Mondays, Jan. 9-30, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. There’s never been a better time to break into the voiceover world. Almost all voiceover work can now be done remotely from home. Students will receive individual coaching on proper voice over technique for TV and radio commercials and promos, how to approach and personalize copy, how to make a demo and get an agent, and how to work from the comfort of home. Ages 18 to adult.

Acting for Adults, taught by June Ballinger, runs Tuesdays, Jan. 10-Feb. 28, from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Through assigned scenes and monologues, the class teaches the basic techniques toward reaching truthful behavior in acting. Using improvisation, assigned scenes and monologues, the actor will identify the intersection of their own authentic self to the fictional character. This validating class encourages compassion and understanding of students and those they’ll be working with. Students of varying levels are encouraged to sign up. You can be a curious beginner or a more experienced performer. Ages 17 and up.

Beginning Adult Tap, taught by Julie Johnson Thick, runs Wednesdays, Jan. 11-Feb. 15, from 4 to 5 p.m. Led by a professional dancer, students in this six-week class will learn basic tap steps and fun combinations to tap their way into a great American dance tradition. Ages 15 to adult.

Improv for Adults, taught by Will Dennis, runs Thursdays, Jan. 12-Feb. 16, from 7 to 9 p.m. This class offers two hours of collaborative acting games, improv techniques and opportunities to nurture creativity. No experience necessary, just a desire to laugh. Ages 15 to adult.
