NAC hosts circus fundraiser for Roche family

Both the mother and son are battling cancer

For the Roche family, of Richboro, 2022 has been a trying year.

In July, Nicole Roche, a local wedding photographer and mother in a tight-knit homeschooling community, was diagnosed with Stage IV Cervical Cancer. Two months later, she and her husband Alex Roche received news that parents never want to hear — Wesley, their 4-year-old son, was also fighting for his life. Following complaints of severe stomach pain, Wesley’s doctors diagnosed him with Diffuse Anaplastic Wilms Tumor. Surgery was quickly scheduled to remove both the tumor and kidney.

Through it all, they have their community’s support. On Nov. 18, residents convened at Newtown Athletic Club for a family-friendly circus party that would support the Roches. The idea came from their friend Diane Dowler, who joined with Christie Capriotti and the NAC staff to plan Wes’ Circus Extravaganza. With only four weeks to plan, it snowballed into a huge community fundraiser that was supported by more than 20 local business sponsors and donors. The NAC, where the family is members, donated the facility for use.

The Extravaganza included live circus performers, games, prizes, raffles, a silent auction, food and more. Over 300 people attended the event and gave the Roche family what Dowler refers to as a “big community hug.” Proceeds will help to support their intense medical needs.

Funds collected through the NAC Have A Heart Foundation are tax deductible and 100 percent of funds go directly to the family. The event page will remain open through Nov. 30 to continue to raise funds.
