Habitat for Humanity of Bucks County recently dedicated the organization’s 125th home, located at 5802 Beaver Dam Road in Bristol.
As a single mom of two growing boys, Jenny and her family set goals and balanced needs vs. wants while they saved up and then applied for a Habitat home. It was important for Jenny to pass on to her children the idea that anything is possible if they just set their minds to it.
Jenny’s home is the first of Habitat Bucks’ new homeownership model, called a land trust. Through the land trust, Habitat Bucks retains ownership of the land, while buyers enter into a long-term partnership with Habitat as they purchase their houses with affordable mortgages. Just as before, they own their homes, continuing the tradition of putting down roots, growing, dreaming and thriving.
When homeowners choose to move on, they agree to resell their home to another qualified homebuyer at an affordable price. Homeowners get to “pay it forward” to the next generation of Habitat homebuyers.
“Habitat for Humanity’s staff, their donors, volunteers and partners are making our dreams come true. We are very grateful and can hardly wait to move and pay it forward,” said Jenny.
“At Habitat Bucks, we believe that affordable housing plays a critical role in strong, stable communities,” said Stacey Mullholland, vice president, Habitat board of directors. “Experts also draw a straight line between housing quality and the wellbeing of children.”
Habitat homes offer families a path toward stability and independence. Lead sponsors of this home, who also recognize and support Habitat’s mission, include Parx Casino, Wells Fargo and the County of Bucks.
Additionally, more than 171 volunteers gave over 1,103 hours of service to complete this home.
