TMA Bucks recently hosted a SEPTA travel training session for students and staff at Pennsbury High School in Fairless Hills.

Trained SEPTA ambassadors and occupational therapists were on site with a SEPTA bus to explain to M.O.S.T. (More Opportunities for Student Training) students and staff the basics of riding SEPTA.

Students were able to learn how to board the bus safely, how to use SEPTA Key cards as their fare, proper bus etiquette and how to navigate specific bus routes. Students and staff at Pennsbury also had the opportunity to ask several questions.

“These types of training events are a great opportunity to get students that are learning life skills comfortable with the idea of utilizing public transit to get around,” said TMA Bucks deputy director David Walter. “The calm and controlled environment is a perfect setting that allows the students to not feel overwhelmed and spend as much time as possible asking any important questions they may have.”

Students were also provided school bus safety and pedestrian safety information and brochures from the TMA’s Community Traffic Safety Program.

The M.O.S.T. program is Pennsbury School District’s 18-21 year old program that changes the focus from academic credits to post-secondary outcomes. It streams the students’ IEP goals and breaks them into objectives so that the barriers for post-secondary outcomes can be targeted. Employment and independent living are the focus of the program through functional curriculums and authentic experiences in the community.
