Thomas announces funding for New Hope-Solebury

$239,821 in state funding will support student mental health and school safety

Rep. Wendi Thomas announced that the New Hope-Solebury School District will receive $239,821 in state funding to support student mental health and school safety.

The grant will help cover costs associated with the training and compensation of certified guidance counselors, licensed professional counselors, licensed social workers, licensed clinical social workers and school psychologists.

“As we learned at my School Safety Seminar, presented by the Secret Service in January 2020, it is critical that we intercede with students in crisis as early as possible,” Thomas said. “This money will also help students and teachers acquire the skills necessary to prevent violence in schools.”

After the 2020 seminar, Thomas held a hearing on mental health issues in schools, which reiterated much of what was learned at the School Safety Seminar, including identifying students in need, supporting student bodies, and providing faculties with the resources to address these issues.

“That is why these grants are so important, and I remain committed to seeing the grants maintained and extended,” she said.

The funds were from the School Safety and Security Grant Program, which releases money for school safety and security grants to schools across the commonwealth.
