Bucks Beautiful announced that funds raised through events and donations will enable the planting of 80,000 daffodil bulbs this fall, which is double the amount planted last year. In partnership with Gale Nurseries Inc., the perennial bulbs will be planted at 11 locations across Bucks County.
The Bulbs for Bucks Program was the inspiration of board member Chuck Gale, to beautify Bucks County at key locations with the first splendor of spring — blooming daffodils. Gale said, “I like the idea of planting daffodils because the bulbs multiply each year, and the project is long-lasting for future generations to enjoy. To my knowledge, this is the largest bulb planting project in the state of Pennsylvania.”
Since the initiative debuted in 2010, over 1.6 million daffodil bulbs have been established throughout the county.
Planting locations for 2022 include:
– Jamison Elementary School, where Bucks Beautiful will plant an array of daffodils, as well as sponsor a Sensory Garden in memory of Renee Ford, a beloved staff member who succumbed to a battle with lung cancer. Students will assist with hand-planting a portion of the daffodil bulbs.
– With the success of the first daffodil planting with student participation in 2017, Bucks Beautiful is returning to Willow Dale Elementary School in Warminster, where a new generation of students will help plant the bulbs.
– Fifth grade students will assist their third grade buddies to plant 250 bulbs to brighten the school yard at Buckingham Elementary.
– Malmark Bellcraftsmen in Plumsteadville are supporting an installation on their grounds. The blooms will brighten the 611 corridor at the location of this harmonious third generation family business.
– The prior phases at Doylestown’s Pine Run Retirement Community were so well received that it’s become an annual tradition underwritten by Bucks Beautiful co-founders Jack and Carol McCaughan. This year, Bob and Alice Vernon are co-sponsoring additional bulbs, creating a combined 25,000 blooms that will be a cheerful display for residents and visitors alike this spring.
– Bulbs will be cultivated opposite Doylestown’s Borough Hall at the new Broad Commons Park, which contains a playground, picnic area and entertainment space to be added later.
– Jack and Carol McCaughan are also endowing a planting to grace the grounds of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Doylestown.
– Daffodils will accompany the 50 native trees which Bucks Beautiful donated in May to Buckingham Township’s George M. Bush Park. This popular public park was developed through a collaboration between the township, the Lions Club and the community.
– Planting in memory of New Hope resident and businessman Herb Sandor, longtime friend to Bucks Beautiful. Co-sponsored by Bucks Beautiful and Steve Darlington at the office of Berkshire Hathaway Home Services Fox & Roach Realtors on Lower York Road in New Hope.
– Snipes Farm and Education Center, a nonprofit organization in Morrisville which prioritizes the preservation of small farms, open space, healthy food and sustaining the earth and its natural resources.
– Morrisville’s Patriot Park and Historic Summerseat, once home to signers of the Declaration of Independence and Constitution, and a Revolutionary War headquarters for George Washington. This passive park benefits residents and compliments this important destination for heritage tourism.
