When it comes to finding a job or embarking on a new career path, the process can seem daunting. Whether it’s the struggle of crafting the perfect resume or feeling overwhelmed while filling out a lengthy application, landing a new position is no easy feat.
Luckily, job seekers in the area now have a brand new facility where they can receive guidance.
Bucks County PA CareerLink, formerly located at 1260 Veterans Highway in Bristol, recently celebrated the grand opening of its new location at 4800 E. Street Road in Trevose. On hand for the event were local elected officials, community members and Jennifer Berrier, secretary of the state Department of Labor & Industry.
“Connecting Pennsylvanians to one-stop-shop career readiness centers like PA CareerLink gives people access to family-sustaining employment, enabling them to succeed in today’s dynamic economy,” said Berrier. “The improvements to the Bucks County PA CareerLink, its accessibility and its ability to offer more in-person services and assistance to job seekers are crucial to this region.”
At the new facility in the Bucks County Technology Park, visitors can take advantage of free services from a highly-trained staff. These include workshops that focus on resume building, posting and submitting; mock interviews; job search and training assistance; adult education classes and workshops; career fairs; and referral services to partners.
The Trevose space features an upgraded computer lab that’s available for skills assessment and aptitude testing, which helps match employees to the thousands of employers who are hiring across the commonwealth. Training workshops for both new hires and existing employees are scheduled to take place in modernized meeting rooms.
Present at the grand opening ceremony was Bucks County Commissioner Bob Harvie, who shared more insight on what’s offered in Trevose.
“There’s classes for people working on their GED. They have clothing that you can borrow if you need clothing for interviews, pretty much anything you need. PA CareerLink here in Bucks County works with all kinds of nonprofits to help people find that job,” said Harvie. “So if it’s your first job or you’re looking for a new job, it doesn’t matter what age, it doesn’t matter skill level. They can help you.”
Harvie believes the new location will be accessible to more job seekers given its close proximity to SEPTA stops, I-95, Route 1 and the PA Turnpike.
“The relocation will undoubtedly advance the critical work of PA CareerLink in Bucks County,” he said. “Dedicated workforce professionals are available in-person to provide comprehensive employment, training and business services that help job seekers and employers get the tools they need for success from a single identifiable source. This increased accessibility coincides with a particularly challenging job market, making such a resource key to economic recovery throughout the county.”
As of August, Bucks County had an unemployment rate of 3.5 percent, one of the lowest within the commonwealth. According to L&I’s Center for Workforce Information & Analysis, Bucks County industries with the largest number of employees in the first quarter of 2022 were restaurants, elementary and middle schools, individual and family services, grocery and convenience retailers, and general medical/surgical hospitals.
At the grand opening ceremony, attendees were able to meet and mingle with over two dozen employers in these and other industries during an on-site job fair.
Area job seekers should be on the lookout for similar events in the future. In the meantime, they can visit buckscounty.gov/559/PA-CareerLink-Bucks-County for more information, including job postings, training services and the ability to upload a resume, which would make the individual visible and available to thousands of employers.
