Falls Township’s Family Festival Weekend set for Sept. 16-17

Enjoy food, a variety of trucks and more

Falls Township’s combination Family Festival and fifth annual Touch a Truck, dubbed Family Festival Weekend, is set for Sept. 16-17. The popular yearly events are joined by a brand new Food Truck Festival to kick off festivities on Friday, Sept. 16.

The Food Truck Festival features multiple food trucks with eats ranging from pizza in a cone to funnel cakes, festival foods, tater tots and more. The SEVEN Band will perform throughout the event, which runs from 6 to 10 p.m. In addition, a roped-off beer garden featuring beer, wine and seltzer for purchase by the can will serve as a fundraiser for the Fairless Hills Fire Department.

On Saturday, Sept. 17, dozens of large trucks, excavators, towing vehicles, emergency response vehicles and various types of heavy machinery will be on hand for all to explore from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. (with a sensory-friendly quiet hour from 9 to 10 a.m.). Truck operators will refrain from flashing their lights or blowing their air horns during this time.

Spearheaded by Falls Township supervisor Jeff Boraski and the townships Parks & Recreation department, Touch a Truck offers a unique opportunity for children to learn more about how the various vehicles on display serve as first response, construction, farming, manufacturing and more.

Also on Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., the community can enjoy face painting, balloon artistry, bounce houses, giveaways, table vendors, a DJ and food available for purchase as part of the Family Festival. Fireworks to follow at about 8:30 p.m.

All proceeds from Touch a Truck benefit The Barkann Family Healing Hearts Foundation, a nonprofit organization that provides financial aid to families throughout the Delaware Valley who are in need due to recent tragedy or adversity. Michael Barkann, host of NBC Sports Philadelphia, began the foundation in 2013, and will make a special appearance at the Touch a Truck event. He will also choose the raffle ticket winner for a pair of Eagles-Cowboys tickets for the Oct. 16 game, another fundraiser for the foundation.

Touch a Truck will feature police and fire vehicles, as well as a school bus and Falls Township mowers and trucks. Event sponsors who will be bringing additional trucks and machinery include Trash Daddy, Premium Excavating, CLC Contractors, Yard Truck Specialists, Waste Management, IBEW Local 269, Costello Fuel, Carr & Duff, Armour & Sons, Riley Electric, T&M Fuel, B. Blair Corp, Britton Industries and GPS Hauling. Rudolph Clarke LLC, Jones Engineering Associates, Marie’s Kozy Korner, Goldey Plumbing and Selective Vending Services are also sponsoring the event.

All events will be held at Falls Township Community Park, 9050 Mill Creek Road, Levittown. For information on sponsoring Touch a Truck, email Parks & Recreation director Brian Andrews at b.andrews@fallstwp.com. In the event of inclement weather, Touch a Truck/Family Festival will be held on Sept. 24, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
