Children from Middletown Township Parks & Recreation’s Summer Rec Kids Program held a car wash and collected pennies this summer to help Sunshine Foundation answer a local Penndel child’s dream. Their initial support inspired others to join in the cause, including True North Massage & Bodywork, Hetzel 4 Inc. and Century 21 Ramagli Real Estate.

Carol Garner shared her kindness campaign with Nicole Tener, granddaughter of Sunshine Foundation founder Bill Sample. The two supervise Middletown Township Parks & Recreation’s program for campers. What started as a penny drive, encouraging campers to collect pennies, became a full effort to spread sunshine. A car wash took place that raised more funding than expected. The campers also hosted a Sunshine table at the township’s National Night Out.

Sunshine Foundation president Kate Sample and Middletown board of supervisors chairperson Mike Ksiazek were presented with a check for $2,500. Money raised will help answer the dream of Savannah, 3, diagnosed with low-functioning autism and global delays. She’s non-verbal and one of five special needs children in her family.

“Savannah dreams of visiting Disney World and the Peppa Pig theme park in Central Florida with her family because she loves watching Mickey, Minnie and Peppa Pig,” said her mom.
