Enjoy kayaking, bird walks, a concert and more

Silver Lake Nature Center, 1306 Bath Road in Bristol, announced several upcoming events:

Volunteer Work Day takes place Saturday, Aug. 6, from 9 a.m. to noon. Help SLNC maintain its grounds. Be prepared to get wet and dirty. Bring a refillable water bottle. Rain or shine. Meet at the SLNC Pavilion, near the SLNC Visitors’ Center. Register online or by phone.

Rainbows of Healing’s Candle Quartz Sound Journey takes place Friday, Aug. 12, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. For more information and to register, visit RainbowsOfHealing.com.

Earthship Tours take place Saturday, Aug. 13, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Free. Stop by to visit and learn about these interesting, sustainable structures. Tours are free, but donations to the nonprofit Friends of SLNC are appreciated. Register online or by phone.

Introduction to Kayaking takes place Saturday, Sept. 10, from 9 to 11 a.m. This two-hour class, led by kayaking instructor Cameron Calista, introduces you to the parts of a kayak, how to hold and move a kayak paddle, how to enter and exit a kayak, ways to keep your balance while kayaking and, of course, how to get around on the water in a kayak. This class takes place right on the waters of Silver Lake, at Silver Lake Park. Participants under the age of 18 must have a participating/paying parent/guardian accompanying them. Minimum age is 14. Cost is $35/person, or $30/person for Friends of SLNC Members. Register online or by phone. Space is limited.

Saturday Morning Bird Walks are offered from September through November, at 7:30 a.m. Meet outside of the SLNC Visitors’ Center at the Welcome Kiosk near the parking area. Free.

Free Guided Walk on the SLNC Trails takes place Sunday, Sept. 11, from 2 to 3 p.m. Join certified PA Master Naturalist Patricia Merkel for this leisurely, informative walk covering seasonal topics. Meet outside of the SLNC Visitors’ Center at the Welcome Kiosk near the parking area. Register online or by phone.

Charlie Zahm & Tad Marks Concert – A Tribute to John Denver & The Great Outdoors takes place Saturday, Nov. 12, at 7:30 p.m. This duo is returning for another concert, with Zahm on vocals and guitar, and Marks on fiddle. Admission is $15/person. Tickets are available in advance only online or by phone. Concert is scheduled to take place inside the SLNC Visitors’ Center. Prices are the same for all ages. No refunds/exchanges unless the event is canceled by SLNC.

Yoga Classes are offered most Thursdays, at 7:30 p.m. Classes are planned to take place through August outdoors at SLNC’s Pergola, located just outside of the SLNC Visitors’ Center. Class is moved indoors in the event of severe weather. Cost is $10/person per class, payable at the door. Enjoy a one-hour yoga class with certified instructor Trina Shumsonk. This class is Vinyasa Flow-based with a mix of Yin and restorative poses for a soothing balance. All levels are welcome. Modifications and variations are presented throughout to fit the needs of every person. Optional essential oils accompany the final resting pose of savasana.
