Neshaminy grads earn scholarships from local foundation

Four Neshaminy High School graduates from the class of 2022 have been awarded scholarships through the Middletown Community Foundation.

Since 2002, the foundation has awarded 175 scholarships totaling over $200,000 to graduating seniors residing in Middletown Township. The scholarships are awarded to students based on community service performed during their high school careers.

This year, the foundation reviewed 17 applicants and selected the following four:

– Christina Inkler: Penn State University, business
– Olivia Jacobson: University of Texas at Austin, political communications, Richard L. Tosti Scholarship
– Aaron Lewis: University of Maryland, computer science
– Hannah Murray: Undecided, political science, Becky Marseglia Scholarship

The scholarships can be put toward tuition, books or supplies needed to complete the required coursework at an accredited institution of higher education. The Neshaminy alumni were awarded the scholarships at a recent Middletown Township board of supervisors meeting.

“The Middletown Community Foundation is an incredible organization that does so many great things for the township,” said chairperson Mike Ksiazek. “It’s our honor as the board of supervisors to have the scholarship winners at our meeting.”

Truman grads awarded scholarships from Rotary

Desiree Rivers and Giavanna Trojan, who graduated from Truman High School this year, received scholarships from the Rotary Club of Bristol. They each received $1,000 to use toward their college education in the fall.

Rivers is using the scholarship at Princeton University, where she plans to study mechanical engineering, and Trojan is using it at Rowan University, where she intends to major in biomedical engineering and minor in computer science.

During her time at Truman, Rivers is most proud of being selected as Salutatorian for the class of 2022. As a student, she participated in Marching Band, Reading Olympics, Speech and Debate, National Honor Society and Chess Club.

Trojan took dual enrollment classes through the Rochester Institute of Technology in a partnership with Project Lead the Way to grow her passion for engineering, in addition to taking classes at Bucks County Community College while also working a part-time job. She participated in NAACP, VOICE, Key Club, Truman Buddies, National Honor Society and more.

To apply for the scholarship, Rivers and Trojan wrote an essay, submitted their grades and financial information, provided teacher recommendations and listed clubs, activities and community involvement, which were all reviewed by the scholarship committee’s selection team. Funds for annual scholarships are raised through the Rotary Club of Bristol’s annual golf outing each fall.
