Cobalt Ridge Park Playground construction is underway

The space is slated to open in mid-August and will feature a number of inclusive features

Middletown Township announced that work on the new Cobalt Ridge Park Playground has officially begun.

In February, the board of supervisors approved a new playground to replace the well-loved original playground from 2005. The new space has a number of inclusive features, including wheelchair access, solitude seats designed for children on the autism spectrum, a music feature, expression swings with adaptive seating for adults and children to sit face-to-face, plus new benches and trash cans.

The Department of Public Works broke ground in the beginning of June to replace the 17-year-old playground at Cobalt Ridge Park.

This playground is one of a few in the township that aims to broaden inclusive features for children of varying abilities. The design checks all seven principles of inclusive play that qualifies it as a National Demonstration Site for Inclusion. This means that the playground illustrates community vitality across a variety of influences, including social-emotional, environmental, health, community engagement, public services and educational opportunities.

The installation of the playground is being provided as a courtesy of GameTime, the supplier of the playground, along with the help of the Department of Public Works.

The playground area will be closed until the new unit is installed. The opening of the new playground is anticipated to happen in mid-August.
