Unattended Veterans Service is June 30

The Coroner’s Office will be interring seven unclaimed veterans in Newtown

The community is invited to join the Bucks County Coroner’s Office at a combined ceremony with the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office at the Unattended Veterans Service on Thursday, June 30, at 2 p.m. at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, 830 Highland Road, Newtown.

Together, the Coroner’s Offices will be interring seven unclaimed veterans:

– Anthony Bittenbender, U.S. Air Force (Sergeant), Bristol Township
– Louis Filosi, U.S. Navy (Seaman 1st Class) (World War II Era), Bristol Township
– John Nace, U.S. Army (Corporal), Lower Southampton Township
– Hasford Altman, U.S. Navy (Seaman 2nd Class), Philadelphia
– Larry J. Hopkins, U.S. Navy (Airman Apprentice), Warwick Township
– Eugene Johnson, U.S. Marine Corps Reserves/Active Duty (Private 1st Class), Upper Moreland Township
– Willie Schill, U.S. Army (Private 1st Class), Lower Pottsgrove Township

During the ceremony, the veterans’ names will be read, and the Pennsylvania Military Honors Team will present the flag on behalf of the veterans. A rifle salute and live Taps will be provided. After the ceremony, the veterans will each be placed in their own niche in the columbarium, which will be engraved with “Proudly Served.”
