Bucks Community College awarded grant

School-to-Work funding will benefit its Industrial Skills Training Programs

Source: Bucks County Community College

Bucks County Community College’s Center for Workforce Development’s Industrial Skills Training Programs is one of 12 recipients of a $2.5 million School-to-Work grant through the Department of Labor & Industry. CWD’s training programs are designed to give students hands-on experience in manufacturing, as well as life-sustaining career opportunities upon graduation.

To meet employers’ demand for workers skilled in electro-mechanical and machining fundamentals, BCCC is offering its Metalwork and Industrial Maintenance pre-apprenticeship training programs to high school seniors, recent high school graduates and others that are looking to kickstart a career in advanced manufacturing.

The free training takes place beginning February 2023 at the new Center for Advanced Technologies at the Lower Bucks Campus in Bristol. It will have a modified schedule to accommodate students. The program maintains over a 90 percent job placement rate for graduates.

Unemployed and underemployed individuals are also eligible for free training if they meet grant requirements for the Industrial Skills programs: must be a U.S. citizen or possess a Green Card; must be at least 18 by February 2023; must have a high school diploma or GED, or be on track to earn one by the end of program; must pass an electro/mechanical aptitude test, drug screening, background check and physical test; daily attendance and punctuality; must have reliable transportation to commute to training and to a variety of industry field trips.
