Silver Lake Nature Center, 1306 Bath Road in Bristol, announced the following events for the months of June and July:

Artists of Bristol, “Summer Sojourn Art Show 2022” – Creative artwork and photography from many members of the Artists of Bristol group will be exhibited at this nature- and summer-themed art show at SLNC. Stop by through June 15. Hours are Tuesday-Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Sundays, noon to 5 p.m.

Yoga Classes – These lessons start Thursday, June 9, at 7:30 p.m. Cost is $10 per person, per class, payable at the class. From June through August, classes will take place outside SLNC at the Pergola, located just outside the Visitors’ Center. Enjoy a one-hour yoga class with certified instructor Trina Shumsonk. This class is Vinyasa Flow-based with a mix of Yin and restorative poses for a soothing balance. All levels are welcome. Modifications and variations are presented throughout to fit the needs of each attendees. Optional essential oils accompany the final resting pose of savasana. Earthship Tours – Saturday, June 11, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Free. Stop by to visit and learn about these interesting, sustainable structures.

Summer Solstice Celebration, Concert by Christopher Westfall – Saturday, June 18, at 7:30 p.m. Singer, songwriter, musician and Nashville recording artist Westfall will help attendees celebrate the beginning of summer with a “Soundtrack of America & Other Songs of the Season.” In addition to his own music, he’ll pay tribute to James Taylor, John Denver, Kenny Loggins, Dan Fogelberg and more. The concert is planned to take place at SLNC’s Outdoor Amphitheater. In the case of inclement weather, it will be moved inside to the Visitors’ Center. Ticket holders will be notified by email or phone on the day of the concert if there are any changes due to weather. Space is limited. Tickets are $15 per person and can be purchased online or by phone. Prices are the same for all ages. No refunds/exchanges unless the event is canceled by SLNC. Proceeds benefit the nonprofit Friends of SLNC organization.

Volunteer Work Day – Saturday, July 2, from 9 a.m. to noon. Help SLNC maintain its grounds. Be prepared to get wet and dirty. Bring a refillable water bottle. This event is rain or shine.

Introduction to Kayaking – Saturday, July 16, from 9 to 11 a.m. This two-hour class, led by kayaking instructor Cameron Calista, introduces participants to the parts of a kayak, how to hold and move a kayak paddle, how to enter and exit a kayak, ways to keep balance while kayaking and how to get around on the water in a kayak. The class takes place on the waters of Silver Lake. Participants under the age of 18 must have a participating/paying parent or guardian accompanying them. Minimum age is 14. Cost is $35 per person, or $30 per person for Friends of SLNC Members. Space is limited. Early registration is recommended.

Moonlight Kayak Excursion – Saturday, July 16, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. This is for kayakers who have kayaked at least once before and are at least 18. The evening starts at the edge of Silver Lake. Once on the water, travel into Magnolia Lake. Along the way, the group will dock for a campfire and marshmallow roast before letting the moonlight guide the way back. Cost is $45 per person, or $40 per person for Friends of SLNC Members. Space is limited. Early registration is recommended.

Trails are open daily, from sunrise to sunset. SLNC Visitors’ Center is open Tuesdays through Saturdays, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sundays, from noon to 5 p.m.
