Locals can try their hand at painting, games, writing their own book and other activities as part of Fallsington Library’s annual Summer Quest. The dual summer reading and science, art and nature-themed program provides participants with a log to track their daily reading time over the course of nine weeks. The program kicks off June 18 and continues through Aug. 13, and is open to residents of all ages.

The student with the most reading minutes logged will win the library’s coveted Summer Quest Reading Champ award. Everyone who logs at least 300 minutes of reading will be entered into the library’s prize basket raffle drawing.

Participants can choose from over a dozen activities to complete, such as cooking from a recipe, finding the stars on a clear night, photographing the sights on a hike, or conducting a science experiment. Youth who complete at least 10 of the projects will be entered to win a prize drawing. Participants who finish all 19 activities will receive an activity award.

“It’s meant for families to create projects with materials they readily have,” said Fallsington Library director Charlene Rendeiro.

In 2021, 120 people registered for Summer Quest. Rendeiro hopes for even more participation this year. Fallsington Library’s reading champion for 2020 and 2021 logged 19,713 minutes of reading last summer, setting the bar high for this summer’s top reader.

In order to be eligible for a raffle drawing or activity award, participants must show their projects by either bringing them to the library (139 Yardley Ave.), emailing photos to Rendeiro at rendeiroc@buckslib.org or posting photos of youth with their projects on the library’s Facebook page. Monetary donations can be made to support the programming. Anyone wishing to donate items for a prize basket should coordinate with Rendeiro by emailing her.
