Southampton man elevated to Aircraft Commander

Anthony Iannarelli III has been promoted

Captain Anthony Iannarelli III, a C130J Super Hercules pilot with the United States Air Force, was promoted from co-pilot to Aircraft Commander recently.

The Southampton native is a graduate of Roman Catholic High School and the University of Pennsylvania, and was accepted into the Total Officer’s training class on July 5, 2017. He is celebrating his fifth year as a U.S. Air Force pilot. The commitment to the Air Force pilot program is 10 years, with the first two years of education and training exempt from the 10-year commitment.

Iannarelli is the youngest of four children of Tony and Linda Iannarelli, of Southampton. He’s stationed at Dyess Air Force Base in Abilene, Texas. Dyess is home to the B-1B, C-130 and T-38. Iannarelli’s C-130 team is assigned to the 317th Airlift Group, the “Screaming Eagles.”

He has flown missions to 32 countries, and his 317 Airlift Division from Texas was dispatched to Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar as part of the Combined Joint Task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve. Iannarelli piloted eight roundtrip flights from Qatar to Bagram Airfield-BAF in Afghanistan as part of the U.S. military troop breakdown and equipment. He piloted the last C130J transport out of Bagram in 2021.
