Current Harry S. Truman High School juniors have the opportunity to start a manufacturing career by the end of graduation through the Advanced Manufacturing Pre-Apprenticeship Training at Bucks County Community College.

The 16-week training starts Feb. 21, 2023, and takes place at the new Center for Advanced Technologies, Bristol Campus.

“The pre-apprenticeship training is a great opportunity for any student interested in manufacturing. They are very hands-on programs,” said Steve Pierce, school counselor at Truman High School.

Students will learn the fundamental concepts and learn the skills required for a variety of manufacturing careers in metalwork or industrial maintenance. Some of the topics included in training are Intro to Manufacturing & Safety, Shop Math & Measurement, Blueprint Reading, Employability Skills, Resume and Interviewing, and Personal Financial Literacy.

With one-one-one recruitment and placement services, the program has a job placement rate of more than 90 percent. Students will be ready for entry-level positions, such as welder, assembly mechanic, maintenance technician, engineering technician and many others.

Training is free for students who qualify. Students who complete the program will earn 12 credits toward an engineering technology associate degree at Bucks County Community College for those who wish to continue their education. Leading up to the start of the program in February, students will take a full credit of English and half-credit course offerings.

Juniors who are interested in the program can attend a recruitment information session to apply for their senior year. They should contact Truman’s Counseling Center for dates.

Current seniors can also apply for the Metalwork Pre-Apprentice Training Program beginning Aug. 1, 2022, or the Electro-mechanical Training Pre-Apprentice Industrial Maintenance beginning Sept. 12, 2022.
