The House recently passed Rep. K.C. Tomlinson’s House Bill 2271, also known as Lindsey’s Law.
Lindsey Piccone was a victim of sextortion, which is when an individual demands sexually explicit photos or videos. If this individual does not get what they want, they often threaten violence or further exposure, such as posting online.
“Unfortunately, due to the abuse Lindsey suffered, she took her own life, leaving nothing but a note for her parents reading, ‘Before someone else ruins my life, I am ruining mine,’” said Tomlinson.
In honor of Piccone, House Bill 2271 would add to the already-existing law on sextortion sentencing enhancements for predators whose abuse leads to serious bodily harm or death.
“Lindsey never received the justice she deserved, but with House Bill 2271, justice will be served in her name,” said Tomlinson.
The bill now moves to the Senate.
