Democrat enters 178th race

Ilya Breyman announced his bid for state representative in the open 178th Legislative District

Ilya Breyman announced his bid for state representative in the open 178th Legislative District.

“I am running for office because I am deeply concerned by the division in our communities. I came to this country as a Jewish refugee from Putin’s Russia, with dreams of an open, inclusive America where our family could pursue our dreams. As we are united in supporting freedom and democracy in Ukraine, we can be united in our resolve to provide opportunities for everyone to pursue their American Dream. Only as a community with shared values are we able to take a stand against tyranny,” Breyman said.

“I was born into a nation with an authoritarian regime, and I do not take for granted the fragility of our democracy and our mandate to protect it. When I came to the U.S. just a few weeks before September 11th, I was proud of the unity that America showed after the attack, and I would never have imagined how divided our nation would become just over a decade later.”

Republican Rep. Wendi Thomas is not seeking another term. The Republican candidates are Kristin Marcell, a Council Rock School Board member, and Brittany Kosin, a nurse.

Breyman is the father of two elementary school-aged children and the son of a retired public school teacher who now runs two early education centers serving more than 500 pre-school children.

He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University as well as a master’s in Education Entrepreneurship from the University of Pennsylvania. His legislative priorities include improving access to high-quality education, conservation, creating new jobs in traditional and emerging industries, and creating a level playing field so local businesses can thrive.

“I am convinced Pennsylvanians share the same values. We want to make sure we create good jobs right here at home, invest in our infrastructure, support our police, firefighters and EMTs, and make the world a better place for our children. We are Americans first – and Republicans, Democrats or independents second.”
