Citizen Science Kits at the Grundy Library

Assist with ongoing scientific studies on international, national and local levels

The Margaret R. Grundy Library, 680 Radcliffe St. in Bristol, announced that Citizen Science Kits are available for children, adults and families to make real contributions in science.

Available to borrow are five Exploring Biodiversity and five Measuring Light in the Night Sky kits filled with the tools and materials necessary to assist with ongoing scientific studies on international, national and local levels.

Citizen Science is a way for everyday people to partake in science and research in order to assist actual ongoing and current research projects. Borrow a Citizen Science Kit from the library and visit scistarter.org to learn more about the research. The SciStarter site is full of opportunities and ways for the public to become involved. Find thousands of vetted projects and events searchable by your location, interests, topics, age, time commitment, hobbies and more.

According to SciStarter, the “four common features of Citizen Science are: (a) anyone can participate, (b) participants use the same protocol so data can be combined and be high quality, (c) data can help real scientists come to real conclusions and (d) a wide community of scientists and volunteers work together and share data to which the public, as well as scientists, have access.” The idea behind these projects is that anyone, anywhere, can participate in meaningful scientific research.

Visit grundylibrary.org or call 215-788-7891 for more information or to arrange to borrow a kit.
