Southampton resident honored by Oldtimers Bats and Balls Association

Jack Bodner, a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII, served as a Brooklyn Dodgers bat boy from 1939-42

The Oldtimers Bats and Balls Association recently honored Southampton resident Jack Bodner with an Appreciation Award. Bodner, 100, a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, was raised in the Bronx and served as a Brooklyn Dodgers bat boy from 1939-42.

The Marine Corps League presented Bodner with a challenge coin, and Sag Carpets gave him a decorative throw rug.

The group held the meeting on March 9 at Randi’s Restaurant & Bar in Northeast Philadelphia. The Oldtimers group consists of former athletes and officials. Members meet three times a year at Randi’s. Lunch costs $12. The next meetings are July 13 and Nov. 9.
