The Middletown Township board of supervisors unanimously approved much-needed athletic field renovations at Neshaminy High School. According to Paul Meehan, assistant superintendent and director of administration, the project will “revitalize our outdoor facilities, our outdoor fields, fields that in some cases haven’t been touched in 60 years.”

The football, baseball and softball fields, plus the tennis courts, will be brought up to current standards and installed with turf, which, said school board president John Allen, is more durable and requires less maintenance. Many non-league teams refuse to play at Neshaminy because of the deteriorating field conditions, so the enhanced turf fields will allow the district to host many more events.

Lisa Pennington, athletic director, added that the fields will be multi-purpose and can be used throughout the school year in all weather conditions for sports, band practice and curricular activities. Additionally, teams will be able to train in the off-season, giving them a competitive advantage.

Also receiving upgrades will be the concession stand and restroom facilities.

Work is slated to begin this summer and be completed by spring 2023.

“This is something that our entire Neshaminy family will enjoy for years to come,” said Pennington.
