To kick off American Heart Month, St. Mary Medical Center announced that it has received an anonymous gift of $750,000 that will support major equipment and software upgrades to the cardiac catheterization labs in the St. Mary Heart and Vascular Center. The gift bolsters the St. Mary Initiatives Fund, which helps to ensure the latest technology, advanced methods and best practitioners in the field for St. Mary patients and community members.

The range of planned upgrades will work in combination to ensure that St. Mary Heart and Vascular Center patients continue to receive an enhanced patient experience and the best post-operative outcomes possible.

“This incredibly generous donation will go a long way in keeping St. Mary on the cutting edge of technology for heart and vascular care,” said Ronald Fields, MD, medical director of the cardiovascular program at St. Mary Medical Center.

Thanks to the anonymous gift, the St. Mary Heart and Vascular Center will be able to acquire new tools to achieve better visualization of anatomical structures, reduced radiation emissions, and seamless integration of software within the cardiac catheterization labs.

Benefits to the St. Mary Heart and Vascular Center patients will include:

– Reduce procedure time by 17 percent
– Reduce patient preparation time by 12 percent
– Reduce radiation emissions: 67 percent reduction for cardiac imaging; 83 percent reduction for vascular imaging
– Real-time image processing with greater clarity and quality, which is particularly important to address more complex procedures than ever before

“St. Mary prides itself on our ability to provide the entire spectrum of cardiac services,” said Lawrence Brilliant, MD, MBA, FACEP, president of St. Mary Medical Center. “Our patients enjoy the convenience, completeness and safety of a full-service heart and vascular center. That wouldn’t be possible without philanthropic support, for which we are immensely grateful.”

Performing the most cardiovascular procedures in Bucks County, the St. Mary Heart and Vascular Center provides care to more than 20,300 patients annually, including diagnosis and treatment of atrial fibrillation, angina, arrhythmia, heart failure, heart valve disorders, structural heart disease, vascular disease and vein conditions.

St. Mary was the first hospital in Bucks County to successfully implant regular stents, drug-coated stents and bioabsorbable stents, and is nationally recognized as a center for excellence. For the fourth consecutive year, St. Mary Medical Center has been recognized by U.S. News & World Report as a High Performing Hospital in Heart Failure care. For the second consecutive year, St. Mary received the Mission: Lifeline Gold Receiving Quality Achievement Award for implementing quality improvement measurements for the treatment of heart attack patients.

“As Newtown residents, we greatly value having a superior hospital as part of our local community,” the anonymous donors said in a statement provided with the gift. “We proudly support St. Mary Medical Center, as well as Dr. Brilliant’s leadership, in the creation of the region-leading heart and vascular program.”
