Bensalem Parks & Rec announces programming

Bensalem Township Parks & Recreation announced the following upcoming programs:

Full Day Playground Program

This summer camp program is held at the Bensalem Community Park and is strictly limited to 150 participants. Register early. COVID-19 protocol plans will be in effect throughout camp to protect staff and participants. No transportation will be provided to or from the program. Participants may not be dropped off prior to 8:30 a.m. and must be picked up by 5 p.m. Mostly all daily activities will be on-site with the possible return of a few special trips to which transportation will be provided. This will be the only program and location offered for the 2022 season.

Call 215-633-3616 to obtain a registration form. Open to Bensalem residents only. All participants must be entering first grade and may not have completed seventh grade, or be 6-12 years of age to participate. Proof of residency required. You’ll be required to sign and follow all safety protocol requirements adapted for the program.

Dates are June 27-July 28, Monday through Thursday. Cost per child is $550.

Youth Summer Employment

Applications for employment with summer recreation programs are now being accepted. Applications must be obtained in-person from the Parks & Recreation Department, 2400 Byberry Road. All applicants must be a Bensalem resident and 16 years of age at the time the application is acquired. Completing an application does not guarantee you a position nor the opportunity to interview as programming needs may change for the 2022 season, making positions unavailable.

All applications must be returned directly to the Parks & Recreation office no later than 4 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 11. Call 215-633-3724 or 215-633-3614 with any questions.

Employment Opportunities

The Parks & Recreation Department is looking to hire part-time park rangers for various township parks. This position would require individuals to be at least 21 years of age to apply. Hours of employment would vary and applicants must be available nights and weekends.

Spring Field Hockey

Bensalem girls in grades 1-8 can sign up and play junior field hockey. All who are new will receive an official field hockey stick, ball, mouth guard and shin guards to keep as their own ($80). Practices will be held one night a week with a choice of Tuesday or Thursday evenings, from 6 to 7 p.m. Games will be held on Saturday mornings at the Firefighters Field, 80 Rockhill Drive. This program begins in early April and runs through early June.

Call 215-633-3614 for a registration form. Cost is $80 for all new girls or girls who need new equipment; $50 for girls who do not need equipment. Make check payable to Bensalem Township. A $10 late registration fee will apply to anyone who registers after the deadline of March 1. All registrations received after March 1 will have to supply their own equipment.

BCTA Tennis 

This takes place at Gilbert Drive Tennis Courts, Pasqualone and Gilbert Drive; Bridgewater Tennis Courts, Bensalem Blvd. and Bridgewater Drive; and Mill Creek Park Tennis Courts, Pintail Court, Bensalem Blvd. and Flushing Road. Register at buckscountytennis.usta.com. Additional $3 administrative fee per participant for mail-in registration. Receive a $10 discount per participant by signing up for three or more five-week sessions at one time.

Cost for Pee Wees (recommended ages 4-6) is $67. Season 1 at Mill Creek is Thursdays, April 7-May 5, from 5:15 to 6 p.m. Season 2 at Gilbert Drive is Thursdays, May 19-June 16, from 5:15 to 6 p.m. Season 3 at Gilbert Drive is Thursdays, June 30-July 28, from 4:45 to 5:30 p.m. Season 4 at Bridgewater is Thursdays, Sept. 1-29, from 4:45 to 5:30 p.m.

Cost for Little Aces (recommended ages 7-10) is $72. Season 1 at Mill Creek is Thursdays, April 7-May 5, from 6 to 7 p.m. Season 2 at Gilbert Drive is Thursdays, May 19-June 16, from 6 to 7 p.m. Season 3 at Gilbert Drive is Thursdays, June 30-July 28, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Season 4 at Bridgewater is Thursdays, Sept. 1-29, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Cost for Juniors (recommended ages 11-13) is $72. Season 1 at Mill Creek is Thursdays, April 7-May 5, from 7 to 8 p.m. Season 2 at Gilbert Drive is Thursdays, May 19-June 16, from 7 to 8 p.m. Season 3 at Gilbert Drive is Thursdays, June 30-July 28, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Season 4 Juniors program offered at neighboring locations.

Cost for Teens/Adults (beginners/intermediates, recommended ages 14 and up) is $72. Seasons 1 and 4 programs offered at neighboring locations. Season 2 at Gilbert Drive is Thursdays, May 19-June 16, from 8 to 9 p.m. Season 3 at Gilbert Drive is Thursdays, June 30-July 28, from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Registration deadlines are March 25 for Season 1; May 6 for Season 2; June 17 for Season 3; Aug. 21 for Season 4; July 31 for August Swing Season; and Oct. 2 for Fall Forehands Season.

Soccer Shots

This is a children’s soccer experience for ages 2-8. Soccer Shots focuses on the skills and lessons of the game by offering non-competitive classes. Each child learns the fundamentals of the game through principled, high-energy instruction, creative and age appropriate games, scrimmaging and soccer fun. Kids learn life skills like confidence, respect, honesty and teamwork. Each class is 30-40 minutes per age group.

Location is Imagination Land. Date options are March 6-April 24; April 30-June 18; July 6-Aug. 28; Sept. 6-Oct. 24; or Nov. 11-Dec. 11, from 2 to 4 p.m.
