Middletown Township Parks & Recreation announced a variety of art programs for all ages.

Beginner Drawing

Drawing skills are the foundation of most ways of making art, but drawing is also a form of art in itself. This class is for beginners with little to no drawing experience. Participants work with both charcoal and pencil to learn to draw accurately from life, plus how to use line and shading to bring their drawings to life. Each registrant should bring a pad of drawing paper (medium surface is best). All other materials included. Taught by local artist Deborah Eater.

Cost is $126; $140 for non-residents. Location is the Community Park barn. Dates are Tuesday, Feb. 1-March 22, from 1 to 3 p.m.

Polymer Clay

This is an excellent medium to start learning how to work with clay due to its reasonable price, as well as its variety of color and applications. This basic class will go over the skills and techniques required to create homemade jewelry and other household items. Taught by Linda Reboh, who has a fine arts degree and has taught art programs for over 10 years. All materials are included.

Cost is $105; $120 for non-residents. Location is the Community Park barn. Dates are Thursday, Feb. 3-17, from 9 a.m. to noon.

Friday Night Pottery

Enjoy some creative time with friends, or meet some new ones while getting your hands dirty. Every night, learn building techniques and glazing. There are many project options, including coffee mugs, vases or an idea of your own. All materials included. Youth and adult classes available.

Cost is $120; $150 for non-residents. Location is the Community Park barn. Dates are Friday, Feb. 4-25, from 6 to 7 p.m. for youth, and from 7:30 to 9 p.m. for adults.

Ceramic Heart Valentine’s Day Workshop

Design and hand build your own ceramic heart for Valentine’s Day. Learn how to use texture and glaze, and decide if you want to make it a heart plate, bowl or wall art. All instruction, materials and firing included. All hearts will be dropped off to the Middletown Township Parks & Rec offices by Valentine’s Day.

Cost is $40; $45 for non-residents. Location is the Community Park barn. Date is Saturday, Feb. 5, from 10 a.m. to noon.

Young Rembrandts Youth Drawing Program

Encourage your child’s enthusiasm for art and develop their skills by signing them up for a Saturday morning drawing class. Young Rembrandt’s skilled teachers introduce children to color, imagery and core drawing techniques while they explore their own creativity. This class is a four-week session. Select the session and the appropriate class based on your child’s age and interest.

Cost is $72; $79 for non-residents. Location is the Raymond P. Mongillo Community Center. Dates are Saturday, Feb. 19-March 12. Early Elementary (ages 4-6) is from 9 to 9:45 a.m.; Saturday Drawing (ages 7-14) is from 10 to 11 a.m.; and Cartooning (ages 8-14) is from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
