On Jan. 18, the Middletown Township board of supervisors recognized Lisa Berkis, a township employee of 32 years who retired on Jan. 21.
Berkis began her tenure as a site supervisor for the Parks & Recreation summer program. She transitioned to full-time employment in 1997 and joined the Middletown Township Police Department’s administrative staff. Over the years, she also served as Parks & Recreation secretary and public information officer. In 2017, Berkis was promoted to her most recent position of special projects manager. In this role, she directly supported the township manager’s office.
“Lisa is a true, trusted public servant, the complete definition of that. She has been a dedicated employee, a dedicated volunteer. Everything that has to do with communication in Middletown Township, it all started with Lisa Berkis,” said township manager Stephanie Teoli Kuhls, who added that Berkis helped launch the township’s first website, televised meetings on a cable access channel and live streaming. “There’s no replacing Lisa Berkis. We’re going to try, but it’s going to be impossible.”
Berkis received commendations from the offices of state Rep. Frank Farry, Sen. Tommy Tomlinson and Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick.
The township resident of over 40 years plans to move to Florida with her husband and dogs and travel the country. On her retirement, Berkis said, “It has been a pleasure working for this town and being a resident of this town. I’ve always been the type of person that wanted to give back and if I was able to do that a little bit, I am a very happy person.”
