Habitat Bucks dedicates home in Bristol Borough

Elaine and her two teens are excited to leave their tiny, expensive apartment and purchase a home of their own, just in time for the holidays

Elaine longed for a place where she and her two teenagers could feel grounded, happy and connected to their community.

Having improved her financial skills through Habitat for Humanity of Bucks County’s financial empowerment program “Almost Home,” Elaine next applied for the Homeownership Program and was approved. The whole family then began their sweat equity, building their own home. They couldn’t wait to leave their tiny and expensive apartment and purchase a home of their own, just in time for the holidays.

On Thursday, Dec. 16, at 4 p.m., Habitat staff and Elaine, along with representatives from Thrivent, key community stakeholders and volunteers, gathered in Bristol Borough to celebrate the dedication of Elaine’s new home, located at 622 Spruce St., built by Habitat Bucks in partnership with Thrivent and the local faith community.

“Every Habitat home dedication is special, but being able to partner with Elaine and the local faith community, bringing her family home for the holidays, is an extra blessing,” said Florence Kawoczka, executive director, Habitat Bucks.

“It is an opportunity for us to put deeds to our faith and make a difference in the lives of those less fortunate. It’s our chance to thank God,” said John Roesinger, financial advisor, Thrivent.

Since the Habitat and Thrivent partnership began in 2005, Thrivent and its clients have contributed more than $267 million and more than 6.2 million volunteer hours to Habitat.

Founded in 1990, Habitat Bucks has built or fully renovated 122 homes that are affordable in Bucks County through its Homeownership Program, which provides an opportunity for low-income families to build strength, stability and self-reliance by partnering with Habitat. Its low-cost Home Repair Program makes interior and exterior repairs, including critical repairs, to help individuals improve accessibility and safety in their own homes. Revenue from Habitat Bucks ReStores provides a source of sustainable funding for the construction and repair of homes. Visit habitatbucks.org or call 215-822-2812 for more information.
