‘New Hope’s Boardwalk Artists’ premiere is Dec. 21

Three female artists bring viewers inside their working art studios

“New Hope’s Boardwalk Artists: Cathy Begg, Donna Lillo & Erin Simmons,” the second episode in season 2 of New Hope Celebrates’ Artists & Authors series, premieres Tuesday, Dec. 21 on New Hope Celebrates History’s YouTube channel.

In this episode, three female artists bring viewers inside their working art studios. Learn how each woman arrived in New Hope with her own individual mission as an artist and how their neighboring studios have helped them develop a bond that transcends their senses of art, community and – most evidently – friendship.

“NHCH has had an exceptional ongoing Artists & Authors series featuring local LGBTQ+ talent,” said Daniel Brooks, director of the New Hope History Project. “We have quality artists in our midst, such as these women. This episode will amaze you. It’s enriching, enlightening, engaging and funny. We hope many will tune in on Dec. 21, or view it any time on our Facebook page or YouTube channel, for a delightful education from New Hope’s lovely Boardwalk Ladies.”

Cathy Begg has worked in all mediums, including painting, sculpting in wood and working with copper and aluminum. In high school, she was mentored by Florence Miller, founder of the Atlantic City Fine Arts Commission, and went on to pursue her passion for art. She said, “My art is about movement, whether in nature or human interactions.”

Donna Lillo has been working in New Hope making stained glass since 1985. She has created commissioned pieces for residential and commercial properties. In her studio, Lillo creates boxes, lamps, panels and sun catchers. Her work is sold in over 90 galleries and shops across the country.

Erin Simmons is the owner of Scrambled Gallery of Gifts, located at 39 W. Bridge St. in New Hope. Her main art medium is alcohol ink, which she uses to create gifts such as switch plates and eggshell mosaic pendants. Simmons uses her gallery space to showcase 25 various regional and local artists. It was voted “Best New Business” in Bucks Happening 2021.
