Those 55+ can discuss their short stories, memoirs and poems every other Thursday via Zoom

A local creative writers group shifted gears during the COVID-19 pandemic and is seeking new members.

The Newtown-Yardley Creative Writers Workshop would meet at area libraries or cafes, including Panera or Corner Bakery, but switched to Zoom when everything shut down last year. The group also changed its name to “B.I.D.”

“Before I Die,” explained the group’s organizer Gail Cowen. “I hope you can see the humor in that. We are all 55+ and hoping we can hang in there long enough to finish our novels.”

Members are working on short stories, memoirs and poems. They read, critique and edit each other’s work, then read the corrected work out loud to the group every other Thursday evening, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Writers can join the Zoom meeting and comment even if they have not written anything, or do not wish to read. Cowen stressed that B.I.D. is a friendly group.

The next meeting is set for Thursday, Dec. 2. Upcoming meetings are on Dec. 16 and 30. Those interested should contact Cowen at [email protected]. A Zoom invitation will be sent.
