Bristol Township School District appoints new director of operations

Michael Cox has been a resident of Bristol Township since 1999

Michael Cox has been appointed Bristol Township School District’s new director of operations.

Cox has been a resident of Bristol Township since 1999 and is married with two kids. He worked in commercial construction for 33 years and served as a general superintendent for 18 years, with his previous roles at INTECH Construction in Philadelphia.

“I retired from the Carpenter’s Union and am looking for my next challenge,” said Cox. “I wanted to get involved with something locally and help streamline the changes that have already started in the district.”

As director of operations, Cox is responsible for planning, coordinating and supervising the day-to-day business operations of the district. He began his role on Nov. 15, and with his construction background, he is especially excited about the Ben Franklin Middle School project, energy efficient renovations at Truman High School, and working with the three super schools at the elementary level.

“I have two children who graduated from this district with honors, so I know it’s a great place to receive an education,” said Cox.

Although this is his first role in education, Cox believes his supervising roles in the construction industry will translate well and help in his management role with BTSD.

“I am looking forward to working with the school district, the school board and Josh Sweigard, business manager, who have made huge improvements here,” said Cox.

Cox earned a bachelor’s degree in construction management from the Goodwin College of Evening and Professional Studies at Drexel University, and graduated from Frankford High School in 1984.

“BTSD welcomes Mike to the team and looks forward to working with him,” said Superintendent Dr. Melanie Gehrens.
