Bensalem Police K-9 Unit receives top honors at local competition

The K-9 Unit won the overall top unit trophy in the United States Police K-9 Association’s Region 6 competition

Bensalem Township Police Department’s K-9 Unit recently participated in the United States Police K-9 Association’s Region 6 competition. The event was held at various locations in Montgomery County over a two-day period and included over 20 K-9 teams from Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware.

The Bensalem Police Department was represented by Officer Robert Schwarting and K-9 Bowie, Officer Sean Hayden and K-9 Nero, and Officer Kevin Howard and K-9 Jango. The Bensalem Township K-9 Unit won the overall top unit trophy. Schwarting and Bowie received the award for top K-9 team and K-9 Bowie was awarded first place for being the Top Dog in the competition.

Bensalem K-9 teams also won trophies in individual skills competitions as follows:

– Obedience: Schwarting and Bowie received first place, with Hayden and Nero in second place
– Agility: Schwarting and Bowie received first place
– Search: Howard and Jango received first place, with Schwarting and Bowie in second place
– Apprehension: Schwarting and Bowie received first place, with Howard and Jango in second place
