TMA Bucks Community Traffic Safety Program educates Bucks IU employees about driver safety

An educational event at Core Creek Park covered a slew of winter driving safety tips

Carly Mannon, of TMA Bucks; Middletown Township Officer Melissa Robison; Teresa Rychlak, assistant project director for the PA Traffic Injury Prevention Project

The TMA Bucks Community Traffic Safety Program recently provided driver safety education to Bucks County Intermediate Unit transportation employees at Langhorne’s Core Creek Park.

TMA Bucks CTSP manager Carly Mannon presented winter driving safety tips, including how drivers of student vans need to be prepared for driving in inclement weather; having your vehicle cleaned of ice and snow prior to driving; and how to successfully navigate the roads by giving increased following distance and slowing down.

Middletown Township police officer Melissa Robinson was also on hand to share driving safety tips from her personal experience, and answer any legal questions the employees had.

Teresa Rychlak, assistant project director for the PA Traffic Injury Prevention Program, provided information on winter car seat safety.

The goal of the event was to help Bucks IU transportation employees be reminded of things they can do to continue to safely transport students to and from schools when weather conditions might not cooperate.

The Bucks County Community Traffic Safety Program, managed by TMA Bucks, is federally funded by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and distributed to local programs by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. It works with law enforcement, local businesses, schools and the community to reduce the number of annual highway deaths in Bucks County. The program targets demographics with statistically higher numbers of traffic-related fatalities, including teens and senior citizens, and specific behaviors such as aggressive driving, driving under the influence and distracted driving that contribute to higher crash rates.
