On Saturday, Oct. 23, the Newtown Athletic Club hosted a Zumba Party in Pink to raise funds and awareness for Unite for HER – a nationally-recognized nonprofit breast cancer organization. Its mission is to enrich the health and wellbeing of those diagnosed with breast and ovarian cancers. The NAC has partnered with Unite for HER for many years to provide wellness programming for its patients.
Gabriella Mansi, a NAC Zumba instructor, spearheaded the event to support breast cancer with the full support of the NAC and all the resources of its official 501(c)(3) foundation Have a Heart. She was joined by another NAC instructor, Maria Egan, to teach a Zumba class that turned into a party, with all participants dressing in pink and dancing for this important cause.
With all participants donating, the event raised $1,325 for the nonprofit. The NAC’s Have a Heart matched the fundraising, bringing the total to $2,650.
“This event hosted by the NAC was very close to my heart in so many ways,” said Melissa Christie, former NAC director of member experience and current Unite for HER Wellness Day program manager. “With the NAC as my work home for over a decade, I made so many friends there. Returning for such a fun and successful event in support of my new venture with Unite for HER was a very special experience for me.”
“These are the kinds of events and causes we want to continue to support with our foundation,” said Jim Worthington, NAC owner and founder of Have a Heart. “Thanks to the generous donations of our members and the community, as well as the support of the NAC, this foundation is able to make a difference to those in real need. That connection to our community is what means the most to us in the long run.”
This donation will support the work of Unite for HER, which strengthens women by funding and delivering integrative therapies. It has long been proven that the best outcomes for cancer result from treating the whole person – mind, body and soul. Lifestyle enhancing services are provided for cancer patients through Unite for HER because of the efforts of groups like the NAC and its foundation.
