New Hope Celebrates History is presenting its first “Artists and Authors” speaker series of the 2021-22 season on Oct. 21, at 7 p.m. on its YouTube channel. Hosted by John Millman Dwyer, it will feature Bucks County award-winning author, activist and adventurer Jobert Abueva.
A memoirist, fiction writer, poet, essayist and journalist, Abueva is the recipient of the Arch & Bruce Brown Foundation Award for historical LGBTQ+ short fiction based on a historical event, two National Arts Club nonfiction scholarships and the 2021 Writer’s Advice Prize for flash memoir. His works have appeared in The New York Times, The Philadelphia Inquirer, Newsweek, Fortune, Entrepreneur, Poetry Nippon, Harrington Gay Men’s Fiction Quarterly and more.
Since moving to New Hope/Solebury in 2000, he has made his literary mark as the managing editor of The Bucks County Writer and as an acclaimed storyteller on the Word of Mouth stage of the Bucks County Playhouse. His book Boy Wander – A Memoir, is making the rounds within the publishing world.
Also a global marketer, political and social activist, as well as volunteer in service to communities on both sides of the Delaware River, Abueva shares his inspiring, if not dizzying, life story and offers advice to those who want to write.
