The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources is seeking three volunteer members for the 2022 Pennsylvania Trails Advisory Committee.
“We are looking for trails enthusiasts who are eager to make a difference and want to be ambassadors for Pennsylvania’s wonderful trail network,” said Secretary Cindy Adams Dunn. “Our focus is ensuring that we select three new representatives who can help improve the reach of our trails internally and with partnerships across the commonwealth.”
The 20-member, DCNR-appointed committee is charged with implementing the development of a statewide land and water trail network to facilitate recreation, transportation and healthy lifestyles for all. The committee represents both motorized and non-motorized trail users and advises DCNR on the use of state and federal trail funding.
The committee also selects Pennsylvania’s Trail of the Year, nominations for which are currently being accepted here.
“Pennsylvania is home to some of the most beautiful trails in the world and DCNR is proud to recognize the impact of one of our top trails each year,” said Dunn. “Whether it is the gentle pathways threading through miles of preserved greenways or rugged trails scaling the state’s magnificent mountains, the commonwealth has it all. We want to hear from those who enjoy our wonderful trails and help spread the word about the top trail of the year.”
The winning trail will be recognized publicly by the advisory committee and DCNR and through a commemorative poster for statewide distribution, a trailhead marker along the trail, promotion on ExplorePATrails, and a grant for educational programs to promote safety and environmental protection on the trail.
A nomination form and supporting documentation must be submitted online by Nov. 12. The Trail of the Year will be announced in early 2022.
Those interested in joining the Trails Advisory Committee must voluntarily represent each of the following user groups: cross country skiing, off-highway motorcycling and members-at-large. Those selected will serve a three-year term starting Jan. 1, 2022. DCNR strives to provide representation from geographic areas across the state.
Letters of interest and resumes are due by Oct. 31 and must be submitted to [email protected]. More information can be found here.
