Members of the Bensalem Democratic Organization recently donated school supply-filled backpacks to teachers from each of the Bensalem Township School District’s six elementary schools.

For the group’s first Adopt-a-Class backpack drive, members volunteered to purchase and fill a backpack according to a class-specific supply list. The response was overwhelmingly positive. Community members and their families were eager to help Bensalem kids get a bright start to the school year.

“With all the difficulties kids are facing this year, including COVID and damage to homes in our community from the recent tornado, it was heartwarming to see people come together to help others in need,” said Rebecca Mirra, chairperson for the BDO communications and outreach committee.

The group donated 47 supply-filled backpacks, as well as extra packages of classroom necessities to be distributed by teachers to kids in their classes who need them.
