Middletown Township is offering three levels of dog training at the Barn. The instructor is Dottie Peruzzi, of Sit Happens Dog Training, who has attained 21 American Kennel Club obedience titles. Each session consists of six classes. Bring lots of soft treats, a collar and leash (no extendable leashes). All dogs need to have age appropriate shots. There is a max of six students per class. Cost is $210; $252 for non-residents. Details are below:
Puppy & Beginner
This provides basic obedience training for puppies and dogs of all ages. Use positive motivation to teach sit, down, come, stay, leave it and walk nicely on leash. Play games like “Puppy in the Middle,” “Pass the Puppy” and a doggy obstacle course to achieve obedience goals. Additionally, work on manners like jumping up, biting, housebreaking, chewing, etc.
Monday session 1 is Aug. 23-Oct. 4 (no class Sept. 7); Monday session 2 is Oct. 18-Nov. 22; and Monday session 3 is Dec. 6-Jan. 10. Times are 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. and 6:30 to 7:15 p.m. Tuesday session 1 is Aug. 24-Oct. 5 (no class Sept. 8); Tuesday session 2 is Oct. 19-Nov. 23; and Tuesday session 3 is Dec. 7-Jan. 11. Time is 5:30 to 6:15 p.m.
Advanced Training
This provides advanced level obedience training for puppies and dogs that have already had training and want to refine and add to those skills. Dogs will learn sit, down, stay, come from a distance and with distractions, stand, back up, walk in heel position, etc. Owners will also learn how to get their dogs to focus on them and respond better to commands. They’ll also learn tricks like take a bow, wave hello, pick up your toys, etc.
Session 1 is Tuesday, Aug. 24-Oct. 5 (no class Sept. 8). Session 2 is Tuesday, Oct. 19-Nov. 23. Session 3 is Tuesday, Dec. 7-Jan. 11. Time is 6:30 to 7:15 p.m.
