Silver Lake Nature Center, 1306 Bath Road in Bristol, announced the following events for the month of August:

Volunteer Work Day takes place Saturday, Aug. 7, from 9 a.m. to noon. Help SLNC maintain its grounds. Be prepared to get wet and dirty. Bring a refillable water bottle. This event is rain or shine. Meet at the SLNC Pavilion (near the SLNC Visitors’ Center). Register online or by phone.

Earthship Tours take place Saturday, Aug. 14, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Free. Stop by to visit and learn about these interesting, sustainable structures. Register online or by phone.

Introduction to Kayaking takes place Saturday, Aug. 21, from 9 to 11 a.m. This two-hour class, led by kayaking instructor Cameron Calista, introduces participants to the parks of a kayak, how to hold and move a kayak paddle, how to enter and exit a kayak, ways to keep balance while kayaking and how to get around the water in a kayak. The class takes place on the waters of Silver Lake (at Silver Lake Park). Participants under the age of 18 must have a participating/paying parent/guardian accompanying them. Minimum age is 14. Cost is $35/person; $30/person for Friends of SLNC Members. Register online or by phone. Space is limited. Early registration is recommended.

Moonlight Kayak Excursion takes place Saturday, Sept. 18, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. (the Aug. 21 event is sold out). This excursion is for kayakers who have kayaked at least once before and are at least 18. The group will start at the edge of Silver Lake, travel into Magnolia Lake and, along the way, dock for a campfire and marshmallow roast. The moonlight will guide the way back. Cost is $40/person; $35/person for Friends of SLNC Members. Register online or by phone. Space is limited. Early registration is recommended.

Tickets On Sale for Charlie Zahm & Tad Marks Concert – A Tribute to John Denver & the Great Outdoors, which takes place Saturday, Nov. 6, at 7:30 p.m. Returning for another concert is Zahm on vocals and guitar and Marks on fiddle. The concert will be held inside at the SLNC Visitors’ Center. Doors open at 7 p.m. Space is limited and this event sells out quickly. Purchasing tickets early is recommended. Cost is $15/person. Tickets are available in advance only. Tickets are available online or by phone. Prices are the same for all ages. No refunds/exchanges unless the event is cancelled by SLNC.

The Trails at SLNC are open daily from sunrise to sunset. It’s free to come out and explore the trails on your own. The SLNC Visitors’ Center is open Tuesday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Sunday, from noon to 5 p.m.
