Family Service Association of Bucks County is seeking donations of new backpacks and supplies or monetary donations to help children return to school with pride and confidence.
The back to school season is a difficult time for many families since lists of supplies can be long and costly. This year, those challenges are even more daunting given the increased financial pressures that many families are facing. Families with children in elementary school through high school spent an average of $789.90 per household on back to school clothing, supplies and technology items last year, according to a survey by the National Retail Federation.
All donated items go to Family Service clients, or children of clients between the ages of 4 and 18, with demonstrated need. Groups or companies are even invited to host their own back to school drive to support Family Service’s efforts. Locals can also volunteer to help organize supplies and fill backpacks.
Last year, thanks to generous donations from individuals, organizations and corporations, Family Service provided 302 children with new backpacks filled with supplies, lunch boxes and more.
