Community unites to unlock $25,000 for United Way’s Bucks Knocks Out Hunger

The nonprofit secured over 250 gifts to obtain the challenge gift from local couple Simon and Jane Hallett

United Way of Bucks County recently secured an additional $25,000 for hunger relief thanks to a community-wide effort to unlock a challenge gift.

When local couple Simon and Jane Hallett challenged the nonprofit to obtain 250 donations for its hunger-fighting event Bucks Knocks Out Hunger, United Way called on friends and neighbors to help. The nonprofit exceeded its goal by the July 5 deadline, securing 256 donations and unlocking the Halletts’ $25,000 gift.

United Way also surpassed its fundraising goal of $110,000 for the event, bringing in a total of $133,260. The funds will help with food assistance throughout the county, which is still experiencing increased need as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. As in previous years, United Way will prioritize access to healthy foods, including locally grown produce.

“We are so grateful to all of our generous donors who helped us reach this goal,” said Tim Philpot, director of health and financial stability at United Way of Bucks County. “Because of them, we’ll be able to provide ongoing support to food pantries in Bucks County and keep our Fresh Connect program going.”
