Silver Lake Nature Center, 1306 Bath Road in Bristol, announced the following events for the month of June:

Mindful Outdoor Experience takes place on Tuesdays through July 20, from 7 to 8 p.m. This class helps participants looking for more happiness, self-compassion and playfulness, learn to slow down, become aware of the surrounding nature and awaken their senses. It’s not a nature walk or biology class about animals, plants and trees. Classes include breath work, warm-up exercises, short-distance walking and sitting. Dress for the weather (rain, shine, warm, cold). Register online or by phone. Cost is $120 per person for the series; $100 per person for the series for Friends of SLNC members; or $20 for a single class.

Earthship Tours take place Saturday, June 12, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Stop by to learn about these interesting, sustainable structures. Register online or by phone.

New Trail Opening takes place Sunday, June 13, from 2 to 3 p.m. Free. Join in celebrating the opening of a new rugged terrain trail that takes guests around Cassalia Pond in Delhaas Woods at SLNC. There will be a ribbon cutting and guided one-mile hike on the new trail. Donations to the Friends of SLNC are appreciated. This event and trail will feature artwork by local Bristol artist Marty Shively. Register online or by phone. Registrants will be notified of location/meeting details prior to the event.

Introduction to Kayaking takes place Saturday, June 26, from 9 to 11 a.m. This two-hour class, led by kayaking instructor Cameron Calista, introduces participants to the parts of a kayak, how to hold and move a kayak paddle, how to enter and exit a kayak, ways to keep your balance while kayaking, and how to get around on the water in a kayak. The class takes place on the waters of Silver Lake. Participants under the age of 18 must have a participating/paying parent/guardian accompanying them on this program. Minimum age is 14. Cost is $35 per person; or $30 per person for Friends of SLNC members. Register online or by phone. Space is limited.

Moonlight Kayak Excursion takes place Saturday, June 26, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. This excursion is for kayakers who have kayaked at least once before and are at least 18 years of age. The program will start at the edge of Silver Lake, and then travel up Silver Lake into Magnolia Lake. Along the way, the group will dock for a campfire and marshmallow roast. It will then embark on the journey back, letting the moonlight guide the way. Cost is $40 per person; or $35 per person for Friends of SLNC members. Register online or by phone. Space is limited.

Christopher Westfall’s Concert in the Woods takes place Saturday, June 26, at 7:30 p.m. The singer, songwriter and Nashville recording artist will celebrate the beginning of summer with a “Soundtrack of America & Other Songs of the Season.” In addition to his original music, Westfall will pay tribute to James Taylor, John Denver, Kenny Loggins, Dan Fogelberg and more. The show is planned to take place at SLNC’s outdoor amphitheater, though it may be moved inside the Visitors’ Center if needed. Ticket holders will be notified by email or phone on the day of the concert if there are any changes due to weather. Tickets are available in advance only for $15 per person. Get tickets online or by phone. Prices are the same for all ages. No refunds/exchanges unless the event is canceled by SLNC. Proceeds benefit the nonprofit Friends of SLNC organization.
