Middletown Parks & Recreation is offering a variety of specialty summer camps:
Skate the Foundry Summer Skate Camps
Participants learn the basics of skateboarding, such as how to get on/off a board safely. As the week goes on, they’ll explore different types of rams and tricks with instructors. Not only will participants learn skateboarding in a fun and safe way, they’ll learn how to overcome failure, build self-confidence and express themselves in a positive way. Taught by instructors from Skate the Foundry, a Philadelphia-based skateboarding program that won Best in Philly in 2019 as the best place to learn how to skateboard. Helmets required. Program for ages 6-13, with a half day camp for ages 6-8 and a full day camp for ages 9-13. Full day participants should bring lunch each day.
Half days run Monday, Aug. 16 through Friday, Aug. 20, from 9 a.m. to noon. Cost is $375; or $425 for non-residents. Full days run Monday, Aug. 23 through Friday, Aug. 27, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Cost is $575; or $635 for non-residents. Location is Middletown Skate Park.
Shooting Star Academy USA Archery Camp
Get in touch with your inner warrior by learning the family-friendly sport of archery. Children can connect with nature and discover a love of outdoors. This half-day, week-long camp is geared for archers ages 6-17, with skill sets from beginner to advanced. Archers will learn range safety, shooting techniques and how to successfully hit targets. They’ll also enjoy activities like moving balloon targets, 3D targets, making their own target faces and quivers, and games such as defend our camp. At the end of the week, archers will shoot in a real tournament for score and each will receive awards. S.S.A.A. will provide certified archery instruction and state-of-the-art equipment, including traditional recurve bows and genesis compound bows. Participants should bring a water bottle/snack and wear closed-toed shoes.
Camp 1 runs Monday, July 12 through Friday, July 16. Camp 2 runs Monday, Aug. 16 through Friday, Aug. 20. Both are from 9 a.m. to noon. Cost is $190; or $225 for non-residents. Location is Detective Christopher Jones Memorial Park.
Clutch Performance Athletic Camp
This elite athletic development camp is the only one for girls and boys of all ages. It’s led by degreed professionals, NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Coaches and ACSM Exercise Physiologists. Discover how to get the edge over your competition by becoming more powerful and explosive, gaining quickness, improving agility and developing cutting-edge speed. The camp is guaranteed to improve any athlete’s ability on the field or court.
This camp runs Monday, June 28 through Friday, July 2. Ages 9-11 are from 9 to 11 a.m.; ages 12-15 are from noon to 2 p.m.; and ages 16-18 are from 3 to 5 p.m. Cost is $150; or $165 for non-residents. Location is Middletown Community Park.
Kitchen Wizards Online Cooking Camps
Parents will be sent a list of ingredients and tools that will be needed for each day of the program. An adult should be nearby in case the child needs to locate a tool or ingredient. Recipes will be made easy so there is no need for stoves/ovens or sharp knives during the camp. There are three different themed camps for varying age groups:
– Celebrate America (ages 9-13): Learn to prepare food from various parts of the U.S., including Southern Cookin’, Philly Phoods, California Cuisine and Tex-Mex. This runs Monday, July 5 through Thursday, July 8, from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.
– Cooking Around the Clock (ages 7-11): Young chefs will become competent making a different menu each day – breakfast, lunch and dinner. Gaining confidence working in the kitchen will help them learn an important life skill. This runs Monday, July 26 through Thursday, July 29, from noon to 2 p.m.
– Cooking Around the World (ages 9-13): Children will “visit” France, Mexico, Italy and Greece through foods that are specialties of each of those countries. This runs Monday, Aug. 16 through Thursday, Aug. 19, from 1 to 3 p.m.
Cost is $115.
Summer Chess Camp
Join Chess Wizards for tons of challenging chess lessons, exciting games and prizes. Improve chess skills, meet new friends and work out your most powerful muscle – your brain. Camps include team chess games like bughouse, recess time, snacks, tournaments and puzzles. Each camper receives a Chess Wizards T-shirt, trophy and puzzle folder. For grades K-9.
The camp runs June 28-July 2 at Forsythia Crossing Park Pavilion in Levittown, from 9 a.m. to noon; noon to 3 p.m.; and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The camp will then run outside at the senior center, 2140 Trenton Road, Aug. 16-20, at the same times. Half day fee is $175; or $185 for non-residents. Full day fee is $275; or $295 for non-residents.
