Cairn University Athletics and the RUN 12:1 running club are sponsoring the Run to Rescue 5K on Saturday, June 12 and Friday, June 18. These races support Agape International Missions and International Justice Mission in their fight against global human trafficking.
AIM is a Christian nonprofit that fights sex trafficking in Cambodia, rescuing women and girls from slavery and brothels and providing them with food, housing, education, medical care and jobs. IJM is a global organization at work in 14 countries. Partnering with local authorities, IJM seeks to protect those in poverty from violence, including trafficking, slavery, violence against women and children, and police abuse of power.
The Run to Rescue 5K also supports a portion of the Cairn University Student Scholarship Fund, designed for a student majoring in social services with a focus on helping embattled women.
The first timed race takes place at Tyler State Park in Newtown on June 12, at 9 a.m. Then on June 18, at 6:30 p.m., the second Run to Rescue 5K, in association with Doug Horton Fitness and Wellness and Faith on The Field, takes place at Glisten FIT in Berlin, New Jersey. The hosts will present awards to the top three male and female finishers for each race. In addition to individual race awards, there will also be overall series awards for those participating in multiple races.
Community runners and local cross country teams are invited to participate. Registration is $25 for individuals and $15 for students. For high school and college cross country teams, special team pricing may apply. Contact athletic director Jay Butler at jbutler@cairn.edu for more information.
