The Goodman Properties/Warrington Cares Sprint Triathlon is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 12, starting at 7 a.m. It begins and ends at the Mary Barness Community Pool, located at 2501 Freedoms Way, Warrington. The race consists of a 300-meter swim, 10-mile bike ride and 5K run through the streets of Warrington.
There will also be a Duathlon, which is a two-part race consisting of a 10-mile bike ride and 2-mile run.
Medals will be awarded to the top three finishers for men and women, and for the top three finishers in each age category. The Duathlon and Triathlon are ideally suited for persons starting out as tri-athletes and those who are training for major triathlons. Official timekeepers will be DQ Events.
Cost is $85 for the Triathlon and $80 for the Duathlon. For more information or to register, click here.
The event is the major fundraiser for Warrington Cares, raising over $50,000 over the past four races. Proceeds from this year’s race will help local graduates living in Warrington Township. Money will also be provided to local food banks and pantries.
“Our Triathlon is an exciting event that brings participants back year after year,” said Barry Luber, Warrington Township manager and president of Warrington Cares. “Last year’s event was canceled due to the pandemic, so we are thrilled to bring it back in 2021. Whether you are an athlete or like to watch from the sidelines, we invite you to come out on Sept. 12 to be a part of this event.”
In 2012, a group of Warrington Township employees founded and chartered the Warrington Cares Employee Charity. This 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization is represented by municipal employees from all departments, including police, fire, public works, parks and recreation and township office staff. Warrington Cares was created as a means to raise funds for local causes.
All funds raised will be directed toward providing money to local families in need, annual scholarships to graduating high school seniors who reside in Warrington Township, making donations to nonprofit organizations, and supporting local food banks and pantries.
