Barry Kahan and his sister Judy Sander were looking for a special way to honor the memory of their late mother Pearl Kahan Borten, who passed away last April at the age of 90. They came up with the idea to donate 350 kosher Passover cakes to the KleinLife Home Delivered Meals Program. They will be delivered to seniors in Bucks, Montgomery and Philadelphia counties with their special holiday meals.
The siblings engaged the services of Savvati Gourmet, a local kosher caterer who prepared the cakes and packaged them with a cover photo of Pearl and an explanation of the donation to the seniors who can’t shop or cook for themselves during Passover.
RSVP Philadelphia, in coordination with KleinLife, provides 70,000 meals annually to homebound seniors.
“It is always nice to be pleasantly surprised by a special donation from sincere and caring people in our community,” said John Eskate, director of RSVP Philadelphia and head of the Home Delivered Meals Program. “It coincides with Pearl Kahan Borten’s legacy of Jewish identity and helping others.”
