No Longer Bound – a Bristol-based nonprofit that works to address drug use, alcohol and other anti-social behaviors by providing training, resources and prevention education – is hosting an event tailor-made for young filmmakers and future producers timed to coincide with Alcohol Awareness Month. The contest encourages dialogue and provides support to families in Lower Bucks County on the topics of underage drinking and alcohol misuse.
“According to the ‘Pennsylvania Youth Survey,’ 25.7 percent of students reported that their parents provided them with alcohol, and 42.3 percent of students reported that alcohol was sort of easy or very easy to get,” said Damita Harvey, prevention manager of No Longer Bound. “We are hoping this awareness campaign will keep the lines of communication open between young people and their family members and result in the development of constructive prevention strategies.”
The contest is open to all students in Bucks County. The video should be 30 seconds to 1 minute and show what action they would take when speaking with their friends and parents about underage drinking and alcohol misuse. Students can discuss the lessons that can be shared or what they would want their families to tell them about alcohol misuse. The top three entries will receive an Amazon gift card and the winning entry will have their video screened at the Bristol Youth Virtual Summit, which is scheduled for May 13.
All videos must be in MP4 format and be sent to Lauren@nolongerboundpa.org prior to 6 p.m. on April 30. Use the subject line “Video Contest” in your email, along with your name and contact details.
