Pennsylvania House Majority Leader Kerry Benninghoff (R-Centre/Mifflin), in conjunction with a number of House committee chairs, sent letters to various Wolf Administration cabinet secretaries this week seeking an update on regulatory and enforcement matters that have been suspended, waived or otherwise changed during the COVID-19 emergency.
This undertaking was a recommendation of the Economic Recovery Task Force and has been a priority of Benninghoff since becoming House Republican Leader in June of last year.
“As we look to advance economic recovery legislation, informed regulatory reform must be part of that discussion,” said Benninghoff. “During this pandemic, agencies have suspended, waived and altered regulatory and enforcement provisions to adjust to the changing circumstances of the global pandemic. As we continue to emerge from the effects of the virus, it is important to see what exactly has been suspended, waived or changed; what needs to be reimplemented; what can be changed further; and what regulations Pennsylvania can do without permanently.”
Chairman Frank Farry (R-Bucks) sent letters to the Departments of Drug and Alcohol Programs, Health, and Human Services.
“I look forward to hearing back from these agencies as we continue our review of what executive actions took place during the pandemic and how we can make government more friendly and more efficient for taxpayers and job creators throughout Pennsylvania,” said Benninghoff. “Legislative oversight of executive action is critical to our separation of powers and the proper administration of government.”
