The Middletown Township board of supervisors recently amended its ordinance on inspections for rental units. The new ordinance requires apartment units or any rental dwelling to be inspected every two years, or before a new tenant moves in. These inspections will assure that all rented living spaces meet the livable standards identified in the township’s ordinances.
This change merges two existing apartment inspection programs into one streamlined effort. These inspections will be performed on the township’s more than 3,700 apartment units and any other rented dwelling space.
The ordinance also requires owners, landlords and property managers to obtain an inspection and Certificate of Approval prior to the rental of a rental dwelling to a new or initial tenant. All inspections will be conducted by the Department of Building & Zoning, or the Department of Fire & Emergency Management. This inspection program will begin in April.
