Middletown Township announces new youth recreation programming

Learn all about archery, skateboarding and cartooning this spring

Middletown Township Parks & Recreation announced a variety of spring youth recreation programs. Registration is now available.

Exploring Archery

Shooting Stars Archery Academy is partnering with Middletown Township to provide archery instruction to the community in this fun and interactive program. Shooting Stars is the premier archery program of Bucks County.

Archery is a universal, lifetime sport. Anyone can do it. It builds upper body and core strength, along with balance and hand-eye coordination. Archery develops strong problem-solving skills, focus, determination and patience. “Exploring Archery” will introduce participants to the sport of archery. All equipment, including bows, arrows (field tip), quivers, targets, safety netting and cones will be provided. This program will help students practice precision and proper form, while promoting the joy and fulfillment that archery can bring. Each week is a new and exciting lesson plan. Students can develop at their own pace in a safe environment. Taught by certified, experienced instructors from Shooting Stars Academy. Social distancing will be practiced at class and all participants and spectators will be required to wear a mask during the program.

Fee is $89 for residents, $99 for non-residents. Location is Detective Christopher Jones Memorial Park. Session 1 is Mondays, March 22-April 12. Session 2 is Mondays, April 19-May 10. Session 3 is Mondays, May 17-June 14 (no class May 31). The time slot for ages 5-12 is 4 to 4:45 p.m.; ages 13 and up is 5 to 5:45 p.m.

Archery Intermediate I

Any student can learn how to shoot a bow accurately, no matter their age, level of experience or physical stature. No matter where a student stars, there will come a point where they have mastered the basic fundamentals, and can begin looking for the next step. “Intermediate I” is that step. In this course, students will look at different skills and form mechanics that will make their bow work well for them. Begin refining your technique. Archers must have participated in “Exploring Archery” or have prior archery experience. Archers must be comfortable with shooting at 20 yards.

Time is 5 to 5:45 p.m.

After School Skateboard Club

Skate the Foundry is back with skateboarding programs at the Middletown Skatepark this spring. The club is a 60-minute supervised skateboard time mixed with individual and group lessons, structured activities and games. Participants will learn tricks, skills, fundamentals and more. The club is for both new and experienced skateboarders, but if a participant has never skateboarded before, it’s strongly recommended that they take one or two private lessons beforehand so they can participate in the club with confidence. Taught by instructors from Skate the Foundry, a Philadelphia-based skateboarding program that won Best of Philly in 2019 as the best place to learn how to skateboard. Helmets required.

Fee is $180 for residents, $210 for non-residents. Location is Middletown Skatepark. Dates are Tuesdays, March 9-April 20. Time slot for ages 6-8 is 3:45 to 4:45 p.m.; ages 9-12 is 5 to 6 p.m.

Saturday Youth Skateboard Course

This course is for both new and experienced skateboarders. Participants will learn balance, body coordination, creativity and teamwork, and develop their physical and mental strength. Beginners will learn how to get on/off a board safely, how to push and go down small ramps at first. From there, they will be able to explore different types of ramps and tricks with instructors. For experienced skateboarders, instructors will teach them new tricks and give tips for those who are having a hard time landing a trick. Taught by instructors from Skate the Foundry. Helmets required.

Fee is $180 for residents, $210 for non-residents. Location is Middletown Skatepark. Dates are Saturdays, April 24-May 29. Time is from 8 to 9 a.m.

Creative Cartooning

Mr. David C. Perry’s 45-minute cartooning workshop starts Saturday, March 6, at 10:30 a.m. and will run for seven Saturdays of fun and learning. It will be live on Zoom. Registered participants will receive an email with the link in order to access the program at its scheduled time. Make sure you have a set of markers and a pad of paper for the class.

Fee is $40. Dates are Saturdays, March 6-April 17. Time is 10:15 to 11:15 a.m.
